Listing Guidelines
These Listing Guidelines explain what businesses and members may publish on The Burleson Plug (“Platform”). These rules help keep the directory accurate, trustworthy, and useful for the Burleson community.
By creating, claiming, or managing a listing, you agree to follow these guidelines, along with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
1) What a Listing Is
A “listing” is a public business profile that may include:
- business name and contact information
- address or service area
- hours of operation
- categories and services
- website and social links
- description, photos, and (Premium) videos
- user reviews and business responses (if enabled)
2) Accuracy Requirements
You agree that listing information must be accurate and kept up to date. This includes:
- correct business name and location/service area
- current phone number, email, and website
- accurate hours (including holiday hours when possible)
- truthful descriptions of services and offerings
If information is knowingly false or misleading, we may edit, hide, or remove the listing.
3) Business Names and Branding Rules
To maintain consistency and prevent spam:
- Use your real business name as customers know it
- Do not add extra keywords, slogans, pricing, or locations in the business name
- Example not allowed: “Joe’s Plumbing – Best Plumber in Burleson – $49 Specials”
- Do not impersonate another business
- Logos and brand assets must be owned by you or used with permission
4) Categories and Service Areas
- Choose the most accurate categories for your business
- Do not select categories that don’t apply just to get more views
- Your listing should appear only in the city site where you actually serve customers (Burleson site = Burleson-focused businesses)
We may adjust categories if they are inaccurate or misleading.
5) Photos and Media Guidelines
You may upload photos that represent your business, including:
- storefront, team, services, products, work examples
- menus, signage, or branded materials
- event photos (if relevant)
Photos must be:
- owned by you or properly licensed
- appropriate for a general audience
- not misleading or deceptive
Not allowed:
- stock photos pretending to be your real work
- watermarked competitor images
- explicit, hateful, or illegal content
- unrelated images intended to game the system
6) Video Guidelines (Premium + Realtor)
Premium (and Realtor) members may upload videos to their listing.
Videos must:
- be relevant to the business or services offered
- not contain copyrighted material without permission
- not contain hate, harassment, explicit content, or illegal activity
- not contain misleading claims (fake reviews, fake credentials)
If videos violate guidelines, we may remove them.
7) Realtor Listings and Property Listings (Realtor Tier)
If the Realtor tier is enabled, Realtors may:
- create a realtor profile listing
- add property listings up to the plan limit
- purchase add-on bundles for additional property listings (if offered)
Property listing content must:
- be accurate (price, status, availability, address/general location if displayed)
- include real photos you have rights to use
- avoid misleading claims or hidden fees
- comply with applicable real estate advertising rules and regulations
We may remove property listings that are deceptive, outdated, illegal, or violate these guidelines.
8) Prohibited Content in Listings
Listings may not include:
- false claims about licensing, insurance, certifications, or results
- discriminatory statements or hate speech
- adult content or explicit imagery
- illegal products/services
- phishing links, malware, or harmful code
- misleading offers, bait-and-switch pricing, or scams
- excessive keyword stuffing or spammy formatting
9) Promotions, Deals, and Special Offers
You may include promotions in your description if they are:
- clearly stated
- truthful and available to customers
- updated or removed when no longer active
We may remove promotions that are misleading or expired.
10) Paid Features and Placement
Some businesses may purchase memberships or add-ons, including:
- Recommended/Featured placement
- City homepage banner placement
- Sponsorship placements
Paid placement may increase visibility. It does not imply endorsement by The Burleson Plug.
11) Claiming a Listing
If “Claim a Listing” is available:
- you must be authorized to represent that business
- we may require verification (email, phone, or documentation)
- false claims may result in removal and account termination
12) Enforcement and Removal
We may edit, hide, suspend, or remove listings or content if:
- it violates these guidelines or our Terms
- it is inaccurate, misleading, or harmful
- payments fail for paid features (for members/add-ons)
- we suspect fraud, impersonation, or abuse
In many cases, we may attempt to contact the business first, but we are not required to do so.
13) Reporting a Listing
If you believe a listing is incorrect or violates guidelines, you can report it.
To report:
- use the “Report Listing” button (if enabled), or
- email [support email] with:
- listing URL
- business name
- reason for report
- supporting details (if applicable)
14) Updates to These Guidelines
We may update these guidelines as the Platform grows. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date.
