Reviews Policy
The Burleson Plug is built to help locals find trusted businesses through real experiences. This Reviews Policy explains how reviews, ratings, and related user content work on our Platform, what we allow, what we remove, and how businesses can respond to or dispute reviews.
By submitting a review or using the Platform, you agree to this Reviews Policy, our Terms of Use, and our Privacy Policy.
1) What Reviews Are For
Reviews are meant to share honest experiences and help the community make informed decisions. Reviews should focus on:
- the service or product you received
- customer experience and communication
- timeliness, professionalism, and overall satisfaction
- helpful details that other locals can use
2) Who Can Leave a Review
You may leave a review if:
- you had a real experience with the business (purchase, appointment, service call, visit, etc.)
- your review is truthful and written in good faith
- you are not posting on behalf of someone else without permission
We may limit or remove reviews that appear to be fraudulent, coordinated, or posted without genuine experience.
3) What You Can Include
Allowed content includes:
- your honest opinion and experience
- a rating (stars or score, depending on site design)
- photos you took yourself (if enabled)
- general details about the service and outcome
- constructive feedback
4) What We Do NOT Allow (Prohibited Content)
We may remove reviews or content that includes:
A. Fake, misleading, or manipulated reviews
- reviews that were not based on a real experience
- reviews posted to harm a competitor or boost a friend
- review “campaigns” or coordinated posting
- incentivized reviews (free product/service, discounts, payments) without clear disclosure
B. Hate, harassment, or threats
- hate speech, discrimination, slurs
- harassment, bullying, or threats
- violent, graphic, or abusive content
C. Personal or private information
- home addresses, personal phone numbers, IDs
- medical or financial details about another person
- doxxing or identifying private individuals
D. Illegal or explicit content
- illegal activity, instructions, or admissions
- sexually explicit content
- content that violates laws or third-party rights
E. Spam, promotions, or irrelevant content
- ads, coupon codes, or unrelated promotions
- repetitive spam posts
- reviews that do not relate to the listed business experience
F. Impersonation
- pretending to be someone else
- pretending to represent a business, employee, or public official
5) Business Responses to Reviews
Businesses may respond to reviews through their dashboard (if enabled) or by contacting support.
We recommend that responses:
- stay respectful and professional
- address the issue without attacking the reviewer
- avoid sharing private customer information
- offer a way to resolve the issue offline
We may remove business responses that violate these rules.
6) Reporting a Review
Users and businesses may report a review they believe violates this policy.
How to report:
- Use the “Report Review” link/button (if enabled), or
- Email: [support email] with:
- Business name + listing URL
- Review URL or screenshot
- Reason for report (and any supporting details)
7) Review Removal and Moderation
We may remove or restrict reviews if we believe they violate this policy, our Terms, or applicable laws.
Important notes:
- A negative review alone is not grounds for removal
- We do not remove reviews simply because a business disagrees with the opinion
- We focus on whether a review violates the content rules above
We may also:
- hide reviews pending review
- remove suspicious patterns (spam, fake review activity)
- limit posting ability for repeat offenders
8) Disputes and Verification Requests
In some situations, we may request additional context to validate a review, such as:
- date/time of service
- general proof of interaction (non-sensitive)
- clarification of claims made in the review
We do not require users to publicly share receipts or private documents. Any verification request is handled privately.
9) Paid Members and Featured Placement
Businesses may pay for memberships or promotional placement. This does not change how reviews work.
- Paid membership does not guarantee positive reviews
- We do not edit review content to favor paid members
- Businesses cannot pay to remove legitimate reviews
10) Repeat Violations
If a user repeatedly violates this policy, we may:
- restrict their ability to post reviews
- suspend or terminate their account
- block certain IP addresses or devices (where appropriate)
11) Updates to This Policy
We may update this Reviews Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted with a revised “Last Updated” date.
